Beginner’s Chickpea Burger Recipe

When you are adding more veggies and less meat to your diet a burger might be one of the things you crave. Our Beginners Chickpea Burger Recipe will give you a great alternative. It is full of protein, can be adjusted to your favorite spices and flavors, and is delicious, filling, and healthy.

This recipe and video will walk you through a basic chickpea burger recipe and I will add a few surprises to add even more flavor.

The Beginner Chickpea Burger

Prep: 15 minutes
Cook: 25 minutes

Serves 4

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 15oz can – chickpeas, drained & rinsed or 1 cup dry chickpeas, cooked and cooled
  • 1 flax egg (1 tbs ground flax meal and 3 tbs water) set aside
  • 2½ cup – oatmeal
  • ½ cup – shredded carrot
  • ½ cup – diced red onion
  • 1 ea – diced jalapeño
  • ½ cup – diced red bell pepper
  • 1 Tbls – red hot sauce
  • 1 Tbls – grapeseed oil
  • ¼ cup tahini
  • 1 Tbls – fresh lemon juice
  • 1 Tbls – chopped cilantro
  • 1 tbs garlic powder
  • 1 tbs oregano
  • 1 tbs onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp -pink  salt
  • 1 tsp – pepper
  • Broccoli slaw mix
  • ½ cup vegan mayo
  • 1 tsp celery salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar

Instructions

Burgers
In a food processor, combine all the ingredients for the burger mix & pulse until smooth yet still chunky texture.

Scoop a handful of the mixture to form the patties to the size of your burger buns. Place in the fridge so burgers will set or freeze the patties.

Preheat oven to 350, place burgers on parchment paper, aluminum foil, or lightly oiled baking sheet. Bake for 10 – 15 minutes until the bottom is browned, turn the burger over, and bake for 10-15 minutes more until browned.

Slaw
In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients for the slaw mixture, mix together & set aside.

Assemble

When ready to assemble, toast the bun until golden in frypan, oven or toaster. Top the chickpea burger with the broccoli slaw.
